| Review of the 2008 Event | ||||||||
ONCE again the fourth annual Scorton Vintage and Country Fayre was a huge hit on Father's Day Weekend. Another year has been and gone but the general consensus is that it was all worth the hard work as the fantastic attractions were brilliantly received by all. Especially popular at the two-day event was new attraction the Monster Trucks starring Big Pete and the Grim Reaper. Secretary Janice Whittingham said: “They were absolutely amazing and whenever they were on the Main Ring was absolutely jam-packed. They pulled some amazing stunts and the anticipation and suspense that came with them as well as the enquiries we’ve had have been unbelievable.” On top of this incredible display there was something for everyone with the speedy lawn mower racing, an array of over 80 trade stands for the shopper in everyone and the huge volume of static and working exhibits for the vintage and classic enthusiast. There was in addition the Models and Craft tent which consistently attracts a great amount of interest and a fantastic display of Commercials and 33 Albion trucks. The performance from Irish band ‘Thistle’ on Saturday night was also hugely entertaining. The weather, apart from a brief shower on Saturday, stayed fine and the sun shone, encouraging families of all shapes and sizes to come along to celebrate Father’s Day. Steward Jeanette Welsby, commented: “The amount of people coming through those gates was incredible and we have had record numbers - as well as the fact that the feedback from the public has been nothing but positive and they all want to come again.” Organiser Paul Whittingham concluded: “Again I can not thank our committee enough and their organisation and the way they pulled together has made this show what it is today with such an incredible atmosphere.
“What this event has shown is that the greatest publicity is word of mouth and although it takes a while to get established, I think we have done so and that is what has made this show by far our best one yet. Now we just can‘t wait for next year.” |
